With a lifetime of experience behind me, I can honestly say....I have seen it all.
But this weekend I had possibly the worst situation come into the salon requesting my help.
I honestly thought I was being set up as the poor guy had the worst hair system setup that I have ever seen.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO TRUST YOUR HAIR SYSTEM PROVIDER? MENS HAIR SYSTEMS BRISBANE - KAI HAWKE
I am always a little brutal with my honesty and my guys trust me 100%. This is part of my endearing character—the trust that my guys have is that I am going to be there to support and make sure they always have perfectly cut and styled looks. They know that I will make sure their hair is looking perfect, cut with precision to look like you have grown it naturally.
You have to have experience as a professional cutter and stylist to do this. Let me tell you, I don't know about your area but in Brisbane there is no-one that cuts hair like I do. For a start, the other big provider doesn't have any certification as a Barber or Hairdresser. They are not supervised or trained by senior professionals in a salon or barbershop.
Here is the difference. I cut with scissors and not a razor. I refuse to use poor quality, cheap systems that have nasty, dry and crispy hair. I only use first A-grade hair quality. I will not buy in old hair. Do you know the difference?
WHAT MAKES A HAIR SYSTEM LOOK REAL? WHAT IS A-GRADE HAIR?
First grade or A-grade hair is all in the harvest of hair from the donor. If you think of someone growing their hair from their scalp to their knees, this entire length of hair is the donor hair. It is donated to make hair systems. But we only use 8 inches, right? So it is cut up into sections. The first section that is closest to the head is the newest hair that has grown from the body. So it has had the least amount of time in the sun and in pollution, right? So it has also had the most recent amount of oil and nutrition from the donor's body. This is why it is the best quality hair.
Hair is organic and the structure of hair is a protein strand that has H₂O as part of the fabric of its structure. Hydrogen and oxygen atoms make up the protein strand. Now, hear me out: if you have nasty old hair that has been in the sun and impacted by UV and pollutants plus the natural oxidization impact on the older hair over time...then it is going to denature. It is literally dying and breaking down over time.
This happens with all things in nature, so the older the hair, the less nutrition. Plus, sometimes the donor just has dry and horrible hair. At Kai Hawke, I refuse this low-grade hair as I know the hair will cut poorly and it will 100% look like you have a stuffed animal on your head.
WHY YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR PROVIDER'S QUALIFICATIONS!
It is a big responsibility as we all want to step out into the world knowing that no-one is going to laugh or stare at our hair. If it is done right, you will not be able to clock that it is a wig. But if it is done poorly, you will see it coming a mile away.
There are many important factors that had this guy all stitched up, screaming "this is a wig." It was positioned back too far, the colour was 4 shades too light, the quality of hair was dry and crispy, and his hair had outgrown the length of the system.
To add to the drama, the base quality was thick and cheap PU hybrid. Now, listen to me good. My competitors buy cheap materials and you have to shop around, guys. You can't just let someone with a convincing sales pitch tell you how they can help. You have to look for quality base and hair—literally the materials that make a good system.
Education is important and I know we rely on people to tell us the truth. You need to be smarter and realize that some providers are just in it for the money. You need to look at the way they present. Is their haircut on point? Are they looking like they could walk the runway?
Your provider will lie to you for the sale. So make sure you get a second opinion. Do your research and find a provider that you can trust. I know my honesty is brutal, but this poor guy had a skin infection where shreds of skin were coming off.
I refused to let him walk out without me helping. I swear I would have done it for free because I have a responsibility as a medical practitioner to do well by people.
I took it off, cleaned it all up, sanitized and sealed the area. I cut his natural hair and cleaned up the nasty hair system he got from my competitors in Queensland. And to boot, they had rebonded the entire system back from the front. I am not joking!!! I was horrified. So be careful, guys. You have to shop around, you have to get educated about what is a quality system and what is not. Do not trust your provider without seeing their work and what they can do professionally.
If they cut your hair with a razor....scream and run!!! It is literally my all-time worst thing to see.
Let me tidy this all up for you....quality hair is paramount...both hair and base. Don't buy it online or overseas and expect that they are all the same. I mean, your choice, but if you want your wig to look wiggy....go for it! But for my guys and my own personal hair....no way! I want A-grade hair and base. I want top cutters doing the haircut that I will have for 4-6 months.
Yes, they don't get recut again so it has to be perfect. I also want experience....this means the salon is clean and the equipment is sterilized, as I am qualified and trained on how to maintain this. Make smart decisions, guys, and if you need to ask questions, I am here to help.
